Generosity is for Women

Money is moving into the hands of women like never before! We are making it, marrying it, inheriting it, and stewarding it.

And as women, we have an opportunity now to influence how we LIVE & GIVE. We all have something in our hands to give. No matter how big or small.

But if you’re like me, as a half-homeschool mom of 4, fueling the daily grind and keeping everyone playing, working, and studying in harmony is challenging enough, and I don’t really feel like this is me. Or that I have the mental capacity to juggle one more responsibility. Sound like you, too?

We wear many hats. We tend to run the home. Make the household purchases. Fuel the daily grind. But our influence can reach beyond the daily rhythms in our lives. And we have an opportunity for influence through the practice of generosity. Even in our small circles.

Why women + generosity? Here is what I believe to be true:

  1. Money is moving into our hands:
    • The greatest wealth transfer in the US is expected to happen over the next 40 years with women inheriting 70% of the $41 trillion intergenerational wealth (*Boston College’s Center on Wealth and Philanthropy).
    • Currently 51% of all wealth in the US is owned by women (Mckinsey & Company “Women as The Next Wave of Growth in the US Wealth Management).
    • And women control 48% of estates worth more than $5 million (The Power of the Purse: how smart business are adapting to the world’s most important consumer). I don’t know about you, but I had no idea of these statistics!

2. We control the purse:

  • 39.4% of women are shopping on any day*
  • 78.2% of women are grocery shopping for the family*
  • 80% of giving decisions are made by women+
  • We can influence our families to have a mindfulness in stewardship, budgeting, spending, saving, etc.

3. We are created by design:

  • We are made to give & nurture. Let’s not forget we bring – and GIVE – life into the world afterall!
  • Empathic & compassionate – drawing us to a relatable cause
  • Passionate about a need – and we often feel motivated to do something
  • Relatability & Acute Understanding – we may have “walked in their shoes” as a mother, sister, advocate, etc.
  • Guidance – we see a need & willing to help

So while life will get crazy and challenges will come our way, together, sister, let’s spur each other on to the influence we can have in our homes, and beyond!
